Prosthodontics
Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with restoring damaged or missing teeth and related oral structures (soft and hard tissues) with artificial substitutes.
A prosthodontist undergoes three additional years of training after obtaining a dental degree in specific recognized postgraduate programs and specializes in developing complex treatment plans for the restoration of dental and oral tissue deficiencies, restoring function, and aesthetics.
The prosthodontist is highly specialized in the following areas:
- Esthetic dentistry
- Implant prosthodontics
- Fixed prosthodontics
- Removable prosthodontics
- Occlusal splints for bruxism / Sport mouthguard
Fixed prosthodontics
Fixed prosthetics are used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge requires the presence of neighboring natural teeth, with good prognosis, to serve as supports. The bridge is fully harmonized with the adjacent teeth, providing the patient with excellent aesthetic and functional results.
Dental crowns are restorations that cover teeth that have lost a large portion of their dental substance (such as broken or endodontically treated teeth, etc.). They restore their shape and function while also protecting them as they are particularly weakened.
At Athens Dental Spot, we mainly manufacture all-ceramic bridges and crowns, which exhibit exceptional aesthetic performance by resembling the natural appearance of natural teeth.
Removable prosthodontics
Full dentures are removable prosthetic devices used to restore all missing teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. Their support is based on the mucosa of the mouth and they are removed by the patient for cleaning. Artificial dentures require careful design by the prosthodontist to achieve the desired outcome, both functionally by restoring speech and chewing, and esthetically by providing a natural appearance of teeth and facial image.
Removable Dentures can also be used as transitional restorations for patients with implants until osseointegration takes place and final prosthetic restoration is placed.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used in cases where several teeth are missing. Support and retention is provided by both the oral mucosa and the remaining teeth, using special clasps and connectors.
